rest…then come back

with open arms
you welcomed me
a warm hug
comfortable
you let me be

good memories
a set of crutches
caged away
comfortable
you let me be

buried
in my burrow
chewing away
the pains
of sleep
the glare
of the morning
the tears
from the eyes
the sorrows
of the body
comfortable
you let me be

you woke up
one day
you woke me up
and said
that’s enough
of wallowing
it’s time
to get out
of the hollow
out of the comfort
you refused
to let me be

my dwelling cracked open
the mess
spilling out
ruffling my feathers
comfortable
you wouldn’t let me be

eyes wide open
heart racing
trembling steps
onto shaky grounds
head empty
heart pumped
out I was
comfortable
you wouldn’t let me be

i stumbled
and helped myself up
i made mistakes
and took responsibility
i cried
and wiped my tears
i reached out
and found
other helping hands
comfortable
I wouldn’t let myself be
